Signing up to games

ConFusion isn't supposed to be a pre-planning type event. We want to to rock on up to the convention with very little planning and still have a good time. But we also dislike the sort of chaos that results when you try to run session allocation with a show of hands, or even by writing names on a list.

To this end, we're kind of multi-classing our signup system:

Round one is the chaos round. Rather than allocate games in advance, you'll be picking your game right before the session starts, like it's a big round of Games on Demand.

Rounds two and three will be run using signup slips. Fill your slip in, and hand it to the desk, before the previous round begins to make your choice of the games on offer. Then, between rounds, we'll assign people to games as appropriate. Game allocation sheets (showing you which game you're in) will go up half an hour before the session begins.

Not showing up for round one? No problem! Just make sure you arrive at least half an hour before the next session starts. When you arrive, grab a signup slip, fill it in, and hand it to the desk: they'll enter it right away, and make sure you're assigned a game for that round.

Game ratings

We ask our GMs to rate their games as either "Teen" or "Adult". Games rated "Teen" are suitable for players aged 12 and over; those rated "Adult" are suitable for players aged 18 and over.

Session 1

Dread: Zombie Train to Zurich

The messages have been turning up on internet forums and over radio channels for the last few weeks. Get to Zurich. It's safe in Zurich. For whatever reason, you took the messages seriously, and you've all managed to get from whatever corner of the globe you call home to a train station in Stuttgart, the last step on your journey to Zurich. You were just about to get on the train when you heard a strange noise: a horrible, inhuman groan. You jumped on board and slammed the doors. The train's not moving though - and something's trying to get in...

Heavy Metal Æons

Heavy metal inspired science fantasy adventure!

Instruments of the Chrysanthemum Throne

The Emperor is desperate; monsters of legend terrorise the people as natural disasters ravage the land. The natural balance between elements has been shattered.

The only hope for Japan are powerful, sentient, objects known as the Instruments. Locked away for generations because of their abiding malice and hatred of all people, the Emperor has ordered their use with extreme reluctance.

Who will be brave, or desperate, enough to wield an Instrument in the service of the Chrysanthemum Throne?

Man Escapes Prison using Sandwich Toaster, Arrested for Public Urination

You and your posse of impulsive, flea-bitten friends need to break out of jail to attend Big Marco's wedding. Luckily the jail is poorly organised and minimum security, but even so, can you do it? And if you do, will Big Marco really want you at his wedding?

Pathfinder

High fantasy, oldschool-style dungeon-crawl adventure set in the Pathfinder universe. Come one and all, vanquish monsters with big weapons and sparkly spells. Get lots of loot.

Shadowrun: In Concert

It's starting to get late when your fixer calls you "Do you want to make some money in a hurry? Someone needs to be rescued, and is willing to pay for it".

Shadowrun: In Concert asks the players to act as a team to rescue someone in trouble, a rescue with elements of a heist and diplomacy.

Session 2

Devil & the Deep

Napoleonic naval adventure, in the style of Aubrey & Maturin and Hornblower.

Goblin Quest

Goblin Quest is a tabletop roleplaying game about slapstick violence, fatal ineptitude, and the greatest adventure of your life. Play five goblins each (in sequence, not parallel) and watch them meet hilarious ends while failing to achieve the most basic tasks. Will they survive the dangerous world of the Great Battle Camp and avoid the attentions of brutal orcs, murderous bugbears, mean-spirited hobgoblins and scary wizards? Probably not. But you'll have fun finding out! A roleplaying game by Grant Howitt.

Monsterhearts: Breakfast club

High school is such a drag, especially when you land yourself in detention. Especially with these other kids. None of them understand you, none of them are from your clique and they all think you're just a stereotype.

Planet Mercenary!

Travel the galaxy, meet fascinating life forms, then kill them! Based on the long running web comic Schlock Mercenary, Planet Mercenary is a fast paced, mayhem filled and hopefully humorous game about trying to make money by shooting people.

Tales from the Green

In the small, quintessentially English village of Devesham during the 1980s life is quiet, routine and, to the local children, boring. There’s always a game of cricket happening on the village green, the police constable rides a bicycle, as does the vicar, and everybody knows everybody. The most exciting thing to happen in recent times was Mrs Wilson controversially winning the church baking contest for an unprecedented fourth year in a row.

Today the village children, as they always do during the endless Summer holidays, have gathered under the old oak tree at the edge of the green, and each of them has a story to tell...

The Elisia Adventure

Elisia is in danger! It needs your help! Join together and fight the rising tide of evil. Will you be victorious? Or will the looming shadow consume the world?

The Kyme Summit

The Kyme Summit is a game of politics and ambition for 6 players set in a baroque feudal interstellar empire. Five of the players will represent the leaders of the Great Houses competing for ownership of Kyme, and one will play the Imperial Legate who will decide between them — and decide the fate of the planet’s population in the process. The game is expected to last for approximately two hours.

Session 3

Deals Best Left Alone

In the Bastion of Opraska, the sands are hot, and the deals are hotter. However, there are items or jobs that sound too good to be true. Most sane people wouldn't take them, but some venture forth and do whatever jobs may pop up. Yet even the most dense adventurers can see that there are some Deals Best Left Alone...

Drymill Gulch

Word has reached the town of Old Prados that Wade Dupree and his gang, the famed outlaws, are hiding out nearby in Drymill Gulch. The sheriff has rounded up a posse of gunslingers and concerned citizens to bring these murderers and robbers to justice, but in order to get there, your group will need to traverse the dangerous gulch at sunset - the only time of day the heat is bearable. Don't pay any attention to that rustling, pardner. That's just a snake in the brush.

Dust City Outlaws

One part crime drama, one part fantasy with hijinks and mayhem thrown in for seasoning. Dust city outlaws takes place in the city of New Dunhaven. Join in with a crew of 'the right kind of people' , take something that is not yours and hope that the city watch aren't chasing behind you.

Dust city outlaws is a heist game recently kickstarted by Scratchpad publishing. It takes the tropes of a fantasy world and smashes it together with a heist drama.

Florida Man Rises

Somebody done stole Cactus Pete's bike! So now, with the help of his friends The Armadillo Man, Gentleman Esteban, Her Majesty and Angry the Dog (an actual dog), he aims to get it back and ain't nobody gonna stop 'em!

Interface Zero: Job insecurity

Your fixer sends you a message: a local CEO is worried that her board members plan to remove her, and wants your team to ensure she keeps her job. No holds barred, by any means necessary. Seems simple, so why are these board members so hard to find?

Note: Pregens will be available, but if you want to build a character, the basics of character building can be downloaded free from DriveThruRPG.
